Eggs, Spoons and A Lucky Dip

Last week was the final week of ballet before our school show and then Easter hols! Recently, all of my classes have been full of show dance content apart from my Tuesday class which has been focused on supporting student’s ballet work through the Progressing Ballet Technique Programme. To keep my PBT students motivated in their last lesson I decided to create an Easter special class.

In preparation for this, I bought 12 Cadbury caramel eggs and wrote the name of a student on each one. If I picked their lucky egg out of the box, that student had the choice of choosing an exercise they wanted to perform or taking a lucky dip. All of them chose the lucky dip! This involved me flicking through my PBT exercise book and when the student said ‘STOP’ the exercise which was on that page was the one, we would perform. They could win themselves the chocolate egg by telling me which muscles the PBT exercise was training! This game combined two of my favourite things…chocolate and ballet so it was the perfect finisher for the end of term.

To complete the class, I invited students to balance some bouncy eggs on tiny spoons whilst completing temps lié (step up) on pointe. This was a real challenge and students loved the task of trying to maintain a beautiful posture whilst making sure that their egg stayed on the spoon! It was so lovely to hear a buzz of laughter and fun in the studio as students enjoyed some well-deserved Easter fun.
